How to Stay Active While Quarantined

Being active is important, especially now that most of us are staying at home! While becoming a couch potato (or chair potato, if you’re working or taking classes πŸ˜‰) can be tempting, exercising really does lift your mood and help keep you healthy.

For me, working out hasn’t changed because I already worked out at home. (Sometimes I feel like I’ve been preparing for quarantine life all along πŸ˜‚.)

To exercise at home, you don’t need special equipment. You don’t even need to know much about working out! Many YouTubers have quality content that is great for any fitness level. Below are my four go-to fitness YouTubers and some of my favorite workouts of theirs. You don’t need equipment for any of these videos! Also, all these people have workouts of different types and intensities, depending on what you’re looking for.

Melissa Bender

Heather Robertson

Sean Vigue

Mike Rosa (of Anabolic Aliens)

I hope you find these helpful! Please let me know if you give any of them a try.

Over the years, my family has bought a variety of workout equipment. If you are considering buying some equipment, I recommend a mat, five- and ten-pound dumbbells, and good shoes. There’s so much you can do with just that! Some other things we have include various resistance/assistance bands, a doorway pull-up bar, many different dumbbells, and push-up handles.

If working out just doesn’t appeal to you, that’s okay! I used to dislike it, but now I love it! If you’ve tried and you still dislike it, that’s okay too. 😏 Going for a walk or in the sunshine, stretching, or playing an outdoor game with your family (if you have the opportunity) are non-workout activities that still help keep you healthy and happy.

Do you like to exercise? How is the quarantine treating you?

  1. My daughter and I were going to the gym, but now we can’t. She’s been working out in her room. I need to do something like this, too. I’ve gotten exercise gardening on nice days, but we’ve had several cold days. Thanks for the pep talk! 😊
